Proofreading & Editing (English)

Proofreading eliminates grammatical, typographical, and formatting errors, resolves inconsistencies, and enhances flow. Editing takes it further and refines the structure of your document, sharpening its impact and amplifying your message.

I offer meticulous proofreading and editing to enhance clarity, consistency, tone, and grammatical precision while preserving your style and intent. My clients, in both business and academia, have consistently relied on me to produce documents that meet the highest standards of professionalism.

Translation (Japanese to English)

I hold a master’s degree in Japanese-to-English translation, a field in which I have built a career spanning more than two decades. My long-term clients have included a leading consulting firm (MBB), for whom I translated client presentations across a remarkable variety of industries for over 15 years, as well as a major Japanese bank, for whom I have translated a detailed monthly financial analysis report for nearly twenty years.

Beyond corporate translation, my experience also spans a wide range of fields, from music and literature (see The Red Star of Cadiz) to highly technical fields such as fintech (see The Economics of Fintech, my uncredited English translation of a comprehensive textbook exploring the economic implications of blockchains, crypto assets, AI, and financial systems by Keio University economic faculty and leading experts in policy and industry, published by Springer).

Translation is far more than a word-for-word transfer. It requires sensitivity to meaning, tone, audience, and intent. I specialize in transforming complex Japanese content into clear and engaging English, whether for internal use, global distribution, or public-facing communication. My work reads as if it were originally written in English, while remaining faithful to the source.

Over the course of my career, I have learned that documents requiring translation are not always written by professional communicators. Many are drafted by subject-matter experts who may not express their ideas with clarity. Effective translation therefore often involves research, inference, and problem-solving, areas where AI still struggles to perform consistently. I take pride in discerning the intended meaning behind unclear or poorly written text and producing a final document that is not only accurate but often clearer and of higher quality than the original.

Checking AI-Generated Translations (Japanese-English)

With the rapid advancement of AI, it is inevitable that human translators will be used more selectively, particularly in situations where speed and cost take priority. While AI-generated translations continue to improve, most projects still benefit from a human expert who can review the output for accuracy, nuance, and context.

I take a practical view of these industry changes and tailor my services to what clients now need most. Drawing on more than 20 years of translation and editing experience, I provide high-quality translation quality assurance (TQA) services to Japan-based companies and global firms that require flawless bilingual output.

My TQA services include reviewing AI-generated translations, in-house drafts, and third-party work for accuracy, tone, terminology, and cultural appropriateness. This ensures that your translated content is consistent, error-free, and professionally polished.
